Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that India head coach Rahul Dravid will have to manage with two different captains to take Indian cricket forward in the same direction.
Virat Kohli who was all-format captain of the India National Cricket Team stepped down from T20 captaincy following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and Rohit Sharma was named as permanent T20I captain of the team and if reports are to be believed Rohit Sharma will soon get the ODI captaincy as well. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli continues to lead the team in Test cricket.

During a discussion on Star Sports about Virat Kohli getting adjusted to Head Coach Rahul Dravid, Chopra said that it will be a challenge for Dravid to adjust with two different captains in different formats. He said:
“You are talking about Virat Kohli, which is fantastic, that he has to stay together, you need to learn about the other person’s temperament, who is a coach now, you might have spent time with him as a player but it’s going to be a challenge for Rahul Dravid as well.”
“There is one captain in one format and a second captain in the other format. Of course, you want to take Indian cricket in the same direction but you have to manage that with two different leaders.”
Indian cricket Will Certainly Have A Collective Vision But Every Captain Has A Different Way Of Working – Aakash Chopra
Chopra further added that Indian cricket has a collective vision but Head Coach Dravid will have to align himself with the vision of Rohit and Kohli as different captains have a different way of doing things. He said:
“Someone has a different temperament and the other one understands things in a different way and you have to be receptive. Rohit will have a vision, you will have to align with that. Kohli has a vision.Of course, Indian cricket will certainly have a collective vision but every captain has a different way of working.”
Chopra reckons that Dravid is the right guy who can balance things very well in the team. Cricketer-turned-commentator said:
“To drive that mode of working in one fashion, it is a very interesting one because this has never happened in Indian cricket that a team has two captains and they are both-format players. But Rahul is the right guy, he will balance it very well.”
