Team India and South Africa will be locking horns against each other in the highly-anticipated final of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The game is scheduled to take place on Saturday (June 29) at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
South Africa became the first team to qualify for the final after beating Afghanistan in the first semifinal on Thursday (June 27). They thrashed the Asian outfit by 9 wickets to storm into the final of a World Cup in any format for the first time in their history.
South Africa's in-form bowlers delivered again and bowled high-flying Afghanistan for just 56 runs. In reply, the Proteas chased down the total inside 9 overs by losing only one wicket. South Africa have never won the World Cup and will be looking to create history.
On the other hand, India booked their place in the final with an impressive 68-run win over defending champions England in the second semifinal. Asked to bat first on a tough pitch, India recovered from a shaky start to post a competitive total of 171/7 thanks to a fighting fifty from captain Rohit Sharma. In reply, England were bowled out for just 103 with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav taking 3 wickets each.
India have not won the T20 World Cup since 2007 and will be desperate to lay their hands on the trophy. The Men in Blue have also not won an ICC trophy since 2013 and will be hoping to end the long wait this week.
Meanwhile, both India and South Africa have qualified for the final without losing a single game and will be hoping that they end the campaign unbeaten as well. South Africa won all of their four group games before beating West Indies, England, and the USA in the Super 8s. India, on the other hand, won three games at the group stage while one was abandoned. In the Super 8s, India beat Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia.
