Ravi Shastri Dismantled Sanju Samson’s Life, He Owes These Indian Players Their Careers. Ravi Shastri is amongst the most successful Indian coaches. His record speaks for himself and his relationship with the players was a reason why he brought a lot of laurels to the Indian cricket team. He stepped down after India’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2021 with Virat Kohli as the captain of the team.
India registered back-to-back Test series wins in Australia which remains the biggest achievement of Shastri during his tenure with the Indian team. However, he too had major disappointments when it comes to winning ICC titles for India.

He did not win any as coach losing the 2019 World Cup semi-final, the 2021 WTC final against New Zealand. India also lost to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 with him as the coach of the side.
Shastri decided to step down with Rahul Dravid replacing him after the T20 World Cup 2021. Dravid till now has not won a single ICC title as coach and captain and has an opportunity now to end it with the World Cup scheduled at home.

Ravi Shastri’s tenure had its share of controversies but his success in winning bilateral tournaments especially away from home overshadowed his controversies. While he made careers of several cricketers, he also destroyed a few and we take a look at five such players in this list.
5 Players Whose Careers Were Destroyed By Ravi Shatri
Ambati Rayudu
Rayudu was primed to be India’s number four in the ICC World Cup 2019. However, in the last moment when the team was announced Rayudu was axed and replaced by Vijay Dhankar who was supposedly a three-dimensional cricketer in the words of the then chief selector MSK Prasad. That was then time when Shastri needed to back Rayudu’s selection and he did not do that.

Dinesh Karthik
Karthik’s ODI career was pretty much ended by Ravi Shastri. DK was a part of the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 squad but he did not play until the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Manchester.
He was dismissed cheaply which brought the curtains down in his ODI career. A good performance as a finisher in IPL 2022 earned him a recall into the Indian T20I side. He was picked for the T20 World Cup 2022 squad but could not make the most of his opportunities.
Vijay Shankar
Shastri was also responsible for ending Vijay Shankar’s career with the Indian national team.
He was a surprise inclusion in India’s 2019 World Cup squad and the World Cup was the last time he played in national colors for India. He has been playing in the IPL but he is nowhere close to getting selected in the Indian national cricket team.
Sanju Samson
Samson is another player on this list whose career was destroyed by Ravi Shastri. The Kerala cricketer had done enough in domestic and IPL cricket to be given a longer run in Indian cricket under his tenure as coach but that did not happen.
He was inconsistent with the bat but did not get the backing he was expected to be given by Shastri. With Rishabh Pant still unfit, Samson was picked in the Indian ODI squad for the West Indies ODI series.
Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay concludes the list of players whose career was destroyed by Ravi Shastri. Till 2018, he was very much a regular in the Indian Test side. However, with the introduction of Mayank Agarwal as a Test opener, Vijay lost out on his place in the Indian test side.
Ravi Shastri replaced Vijay with Agarwal in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December 2018 series and Vijay never got a chance to play again for Team India.
