Ravi Shastri Hails Bharat Arun And R Sridhar, Explains The Role Of These Coaches In Building The Side

Ravi Shastri hailed India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar for taking the side to the highest standards and for instilling professionalism inside the side. Ravi Shastri was assigned the head coach role in 2017, and the first thing he wanted was to appoint Bharat Arun as the bowling coach and R Sridhar as the fielding coach.

It had a huge effect as India’s pace bowlers were clinical in their approach in the overseas tours and were constantly among the wickets. India’s fielding standards have also become world-class, and results have been seen in India’s number of bilateral series wins across the globe. India is a far better unit than it was five years before, and the coaching staff should be given a lot of credit.

“I Call Him (Arun) The Guru Of That Department” – Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri termed “Bharat Arun” as the guru of the bowling department and explained the reasons behind picking him to do the job as bowling coach. He added that his time at NCA helped in figuring the best coaches and lauded Arun for his communication abilities. He also noted that Arun has worked on making the individuals into professionals.

“I call him (Arun) the guru of that department. Him and Sridhar have done an outstanding job. Bharat Arun has been in the coaching space for almost 20 years. He has coached a lot of coaches and then come to do this job. That’s the prime reason why I picked him. I happened to be the chairman at NCA for some time, when a system was put in place. That’s time Sridhar and Arun came into the fold with Dav Whatmore there.

“His biggest plus point is his ability to communicate with the bowlers. He will not change anyone’s technique for the sake of it, unless he explains to the guy why he should do it. He instilled professionalism in the unit. He let them know that this is what we expect from a bowling team, not a bowling individual,” Ravi Shastri said during the post-match conference.

Ravi Shastri Feels R Sridhar Is One Of The Best Fielding Coaches In The World

Ravi Shastri mentioned that R Sridhar is brilliant when it comes to setting fielding standards for a team and noted that he has always wanted Sridhar to keep raising the bar for the team. He added that the results were possible after some consistent efforts.

“Sridhar, I think, is one of the best fielding coaches in the world. He is outstanding. All I had to tell him was – ‘I want this to be one of the best Indian fielding sides ever’. That was my diktat to him. In every match, I wanted to see the bar raised. There was no messing around. It had to be done. It took time, but it happened, hence the results.”

Ravi Shastri’s tenure as the head coach has come to an end, while Bharat Arun and R Sridhar have opted out of extension as well.
