The 38-year-old India National Cricket Team bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his batting prowess in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Thursday, September 19.

India's top-order failed miserably against Bangladesh as Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) were dismissed inside 10 overs.

Then, the youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped up and saved India from embarrassment by stitching together 62 and 48 runs with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. However, no proper batter managed to play a big knock, hence, the responsibility fell on Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.

The veteran duo, meanwhile, didn't disappoint as Ravichandran Ashwin slammed an exceptional century while Ravindra Jadeja scored a brilliant half-century. At the end of the day's play, Ashwin was unbeaten at 102, while Jadeja was not out at 86.

Ravichandran Ashwin's ton helped him equal MS Dhoni's record of 6 Test centuries. However, the biggest milestone that Ashwin achieved with his performance was becoming the first-ever cricketer in Test history to achieve the double of 20 fifty-plus scores and 30+ five-wicket hauls. Overall, Ashwin has 36 fifers to his name to go with 14 fifties and 6 centuries in Tests.

India's score at the end of the play on Day 1 was 339/6. When Ashwin comes out to bat on Day 2, he will be looking forward to adding more runs to his tally to help India register a big first-innings score and put the visitors under pressure.

The main job for Ashwin, however, will be to deliver a good performance with his off-spin at his home venue and help India win the first match to take a lead heading into the second Test match, which will be played in Kanpur.

Ash Anna, you nailed it buddy - Munaf Patel hails Ravichandran Ashwin

Former India National Cricket Team pacer Munaf Patel took to his official X handle to praise Ravichandran Ashwin for his stunning ton at his home ground.

"Ash Anna, you nailed it buddy, what an innings and to score century at 🏡 Ground gives you different level of satisfaction," Munaf Patel wrote on X.

Legendary India captain Sourav Ganguly was also impressed with the performances of Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja and he lauded the duo on X.

"Innings of highest order from Ravi Ashwin @ashwinravi99 and then by jadeja @imjadeja .. not just the runs but the quality of batsmanship was of high class ..against a very good bangladesh seam attack .. no wonder they beat pakistan in pakistan," Sourav Ganguly stated.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar took to X to shower a unique praise on Ravichandran Ashwin's batting ability.

"The right areas that bowlers keep talking about are the wrong areas to bowl to for Ashwin 😁 Flattens the morale of a seamer early in the innings by punishing his stock deliveries, his good deliveries for four. What an innings!," Sanjay Manjrekar stated.
