After announcing his retirement from IPL cricket this morning, Ravichandran Ashwin has been spotted adopting a new role as a coach in the nets, training young kids and shaping them into next-generation stars.
Ravichandran Ashwin has taken up a new role after announcing his retirement from the shortest format of franchise-level cricket. He retired after relishing a 17-year-long stay in the IPL, where he played for many franchises.
Ashwin is now a cricketer who has totally opted out of the BCCI standards since he has retired from all forms of international cricket, domestic games, and now the IPL as well. This gives Ravichandran Ashwin the license to switch to some global cricket leagues, considering he can still come in handy in the shorter format.

Post Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement, a video went viral on the internet, which finds him coaching several youngsters as he gives them several valuable batting tips, mostly in the nets. Ashwin, though primarily cited as a spinner, was a standout batter, especially in red-ball cricket.
He has great numbers as a lower-order batter for India in Test cricket, while he has scored 3500+ runs in the format internationally and has also scored 6 centuries alongside 14 half-centuries. He has left behind many seasoned batters with his rock-solid technique and defensive work rate.
He seems to be imparting the same to the youngsters, as he enjoys his new role. Ashwin has been seen in such a role during his playing days as well, while Cheteshwar Pujara also picked out Ashwin's name as a cricketer who could feature in a coaching role in the future.
Ashwin's retirement post hinted towards a likely second innings
"..my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ashwin wrote on his X post. This had a clear hint at his adoption of new roles for the Indian team, since he clearly stated his intentions of exploring the game further, maybe not as a player but in a coaching role.
This would not be very shocking if Ashwin is quickly seen taking up the coaching role in the CSK setup or even some other franchise, considering his vast experience can often come in handy for any side in the world.
Ravichandran Ashwin finishes as the 5th-highest wicket-taker in the IPL
In a career that spanned over 17 seasons with 5 different franchises, Ashwin played 221 matches in his IPL career and picked 187 wickets, which to date remains the fifth highest among top wicket-getters in the IPL.
The top 5 also includes veteran Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal at the top and Piyush Chawla as well. Sunil Narine is the only overseas player to be featured in the top 5, while the likes of Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo have all been left behind.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the second-highest wicket-taker, is the only pacer in the list of the top 5 wicket-takers in IPL history.
