Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar does not shy away from speaking his heart out despite the consequences. Recently, Sunil Gavaskar slammed the English media for complaining about the pitches in India and even called them "crybabies."

Sunil Gavaskar is someone who has always criticized that section of the media and he once again took a brutal dig at them during his commentary stint in India's ongoing home Test series against Bangladesh.

The former India opener also cited the example of Ravichandran Ashwin during his comment. Ravichandran Ashwin had a brilliant game in the first Test where he scored a magnificent hundred in the first innings and picked up a six-wicket haul in the second innings.

Sunil Gavaskar brutally slams English media

Sunil Gavaskar missed the first Test match due to his 50th marriage anniversary but returned to his duties for the second Test at Kanpur. He was critical of English media while doing the commentary on the Kanpur Test.

Gavaskar cited the example of Ravichandran Ashwin who batted extremely well at Chepauk, which was once called unplayable by the English media. He called them crybabies and moaners who always cry about the turning pitches in India.

"He (R Ashwin) actually said in the press conference that you can get a hundred if you apply yourself. So he walked the talk when the moaners were going on saying 'you can't bat here'. Saying and doing all the things like crybabies, typical English media stuff, where they only talk about Indian pitches," Gavaskar said.

India and England played a five-match Test series earlier this year. While England won the first Test at Hyderabad, India came back hard to take the next four Tests and won the series by a convincing margin of 4-1.

Ravichandran Ashwin's performance in the first Test

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin had a brilliant start to his Test season as he produced a Player of the Match-winning performance at his home ground in Chennai. India were in trouble at 144-6 in the first innings when Ashwin came in to bat.

But he formed a terrific partnership with Ravindra Jadeja to take India to a brilliant first-innings score. Ravichandran Ashwin scored 113 off 133 balls, which included 11 fours and 2 sixes. If this was not enough, the veteran allrounder shone with the ball as well.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up six wickets in the second innings and finished with figures of 6-88 to bowl the visitors out for 234 and take India to a 280-run victory. Ashwin's performance was a huge bonus for India as he will be an important player for the team in the upcoming Test season.

The second Test at Kanpur started an hour late due to the wet outfield. The first day of the match was highly affected by rain as only 35 overs were possible and players had to leave the field early due to poor visibility. Bangladesh were 107-3 at stumps on Day 1 with Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease.

Akash Deep picked up the wickets of Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam while R Ashwin got the big wicket of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
