Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra criticized Rohit Sharma for not utilizing Ravindra Jadeja in the 2024 T20 World Cup match against the United States of America (USA). Aakash Chopra said that Shivam Dube was allowed to bowl ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and added that he proved expensive in that over.

The Indian team secured a seven-wicket victory in the 25th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian bowlers restricted the USA team to 110/8 after winning the toss in New York on Wednesday, June 12. The Men in Blue successfully chased down the target with 10 deliveries to spare to advance to the Super 8s.

Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah bowled their four-over quota. Hardik Pandya also bowled his four overs and picked up two wickets for 14 runs. Axar Patel conceded 25 runs in his three overs. Shivam Dube bowled one over, but Ravindra Jadeja wasn't given a chance to bowl in the game.

Captain Didn't Get Ravindra Jadeja To Bowl Even A Single Over - Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra questioned why Jadeja wasn't given a single over to bowl. Chopra stated that Shivam Dube seems like he is not fully ready to bowl at this level.

"The biggest question is what is being done with Ravindra Jadeja. The captain didn't get Jaddu to bowl even a single over. Even Shivam Dube was made to bowl, although he proved expensive in that over and it seems like he is not fully ready to bowl at this level," Chopra said.

The cricketer-turned-commentator raised concerns over whether Ravindra Jadeja's exclusion from bowling and lack of promotion in the batting order indicates a loss of confidence in him. Chopra emphasized that Jadeja needed opportunities to contribute with both bat and ball.

"However, not giving a single over to Jaddu and later not getting him to bat up the order, the confidence in Jaddu was seen lost suddenly. The guy needed to score a few runs and take a few wickets in any case because this tournament hasn't gone well for him, he has a career strike rate of 125 with the bat, and you are slightly surprised if the captain doesn't get you to bowl also," Chopra added.

He Cleaned Up Jahangir Off The First Ball - Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra praised Arshdeep Singh for his impressive bowling with the new ball in the first over. Chopra likened dismissing Shayan Jahangir on the first ball to his dismissal of Babar Azam in a previous T20 World Cup.

"Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling. First Babar, then Jahangir. It seems like he is cleaning up all Mughal emperors one by one. Who is next? He cleaned up Jahangir off the first ball and then another guy was cleaned up in the same over," Chopra further said.

Arshdeep Singh trapped USA opener Shayan Jahangir in front of the stumps on the first ball of the match. The left-arm pacer dismissed Andries Gous on the final ball of that over. He secured two more wickets in the death overs. He was named "Player of the Match" for his outstanding bowling performance.
