Former cricketer Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's performance against India in the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Aakash Chopra said that Glenn Maxwell had inconsistent performances for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), despite playing well for Australia.

The Australian bowlers conceded 205 runs after winning the toss in St. Lucia on Monday, June 24. Rohit Sharma top-scored for India with 92 runs off 41 balls. Josh Hazlewood conceded just 14 runs and took one wicket in his four overs. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa were expensive with the ball.

In response, Australia lost the wicket of David Warner (6) on the final ball of the first over. Travis Head (76) and Mitchell Marsh (37) added an 81-run stand for the second wicket. Glenn Maxwell scored 20 runs off 12 balls, including two fours and one six, before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav in the 14th over.

The Mitchell Marsh-led team managed to score 181 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. The Australian team was eliminated from the tournament after Afghanistan secured victory over Bangladesh. Notably, Australia also failed to advance to the semi-finals in the last edition of the T20 World Cup.

He Doesn't Play With The Straight Bat - Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra compared Glenn Maxwell's impact on Australia to his inconsistency for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. Chopra noted that Maxwell performs well when he plays for the Australia team.

"Maxi came sitting in a flying taxi. He doesn't play with the straight bat. Bengaluru guys might be thinking that he should have played like that for them as well, and what happens to him as soon as he wears the Australian jersey, he destroys Afghanistan at times and runs after our team on other occasions. However, he got out. Kuldeep Yadav sent him back," Chopra said.

That Was A Game-Changing Moment - Aakash Chopra

The former India opener said that Mitchell Marsh had a fortunate start and survived missed catch opportunities. Chopra highlighted Axar Patel's exceptional catch as pivotal, describing it as potentially the catch of the tournament and a game-changing moment.

"Mitchell Marsh came at No. 3. Luck was in his favor slightly. There was a catch, it seemed like Rishabh Pant might reach there but he didn't. Then Arshdeep Singh dropped a catch and bowled and he kept hitting. When he got out, fell prey to Kuldeep Yadav, it wasn't a great ball but what a catch. Axar Patel - I am saying it was the catch of the tournament. I think that was a game-changing moment," Chopra added.

Mitchell Marsh scored 37 runs from 28 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes. Axar Patel took a remarkable one-handed catch at deep square leg off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling to dismiss the Australian captain.

The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Travis Head does incredible things against India with a determined approach. The former batter noted that Head got off to a slow start but then hit a flurry of boundaries once he settled in.
