Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will make one more attempt to grab the title in IPL 2024. RCB, who failed to reach playoffs last season, will be led by Faf du Plessis in IPL 2024. RCB has been part of the Indian Premier League since the first edition in 2008 but has not won the title.

Last season, the franchise could not qualify for playoffs. Winning 7 games and losing 7 games out of 14, RCB earned 14 points. They finished in the 6th spot in the points table. They had a close competition with Mumbai Indians for a playoff berth, however, the latter eventually grabbed the 4th spot.

Faf du Plessis was the top run-getter for the team last season. The South African stalwart smacked 730 runs in 14 games with 8 half-centuries in the season. Overall, he was the 2nd highest run-getter in the tournament.

IPL’s run machine Virat Kohli also showcased an impeccable performance. With 2 centuries and 6 half-centuries, Virat Kohli shattered 639 runs in the tournament. He was the fourth-highest run-getter overall and second-highest for his team.

Glenn Maxwell was another impressive batter with 400 runs in 14 games. However, the rest of the batters could not make a mark with the bat. For instance, the next batter in the queue was Dinesh Karthik, who mustered just 140 runs.

Among bowlers, Mohammed Siraj was the highest wicket-taker for the side. With 19 wickets in 14 games at 7.52 economy, Siraj gave a stupendous show. Harshal Patel, who was dropped from the team during the IPL auction, picked 14 scalps. Karn Sharma was next with 10 scalps.

Due to RCB’s failure to reach playoffs even after a wonderful show last season, the franchise released many big names from the squad ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Players like Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Michael Bracewell, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Wayne Parnell were eliminated from the squad.

During the IPL 2024 auction, RCB grabbed 6 players in their team. Alzarri Joseph was their top pick for Rs. 11.50 crore. Yash Dayal was next with Rs. 5 crore deal. The franchise also captured Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson for Rs. 2 crore. Tom Curran, Saurav Chauhan, and Swapnil Singh were the other 3 players that RCB inducted into their squad during the auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been one of the unluckiest teams in the Indian Premier League. The franchise reached the finals on three occasions but lost the climax clash. RCB ended as runners-up in 2009, 2011, and 2016 seasons.

However, they have been an influential team by reaching the playoffs on many occasions. Since the 2020 season, RCB reached playoffs on 3 occasions. They could not grab a playoff berth in the previous season. Notably, RCB did not reach the final in any of those three seasons.

The IPL 2024 schedule is yet to be out. BCCI will announce the schedule in February or March 2024. The tentative date for the tournament is March 23. The IPL will be played for over two months like the last time with 10 teams competing in the tournament.
