Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have managed to stay alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They produced yet another quality performance with the bat and ball and managed their 5th straight win of the tournament to stay in the hunt for playoffs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosted Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 62nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match between the two teams, which was also a crucial game, took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (12th May).
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were off to a brutal start with the bat. Virat Kohli played a good innings of 27 runs even though Faf du Plessis (6) fell early. After that, Rajat Patidar (52) and Will Jacks (41) brought their team back into the game with two back-to-back wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The duo added 88 runs together and put Delhi Capitals bowlers under pressure. After that Cameron Green (32*) played a great innings and made sure his team ended on high. Based on the vital effort with the bat, Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a total of 187 runs on the board.
With the ball, Royal Challengers Bengaluru made a mockery of the Delhi Capitals batting lineup. They started magnificently well and picked four wickets early to leave Delhi Capitals tottering at 30/4 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Axar Patel (57) kept Delhi Capitals in the hunt but Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. Yash Dayal was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/20 while Lockie Ferguson picked two wickets with the ball as they bundled out the opposition for 140 runs to win the game by 47 runs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Qualification Scenario for IPL 2024 Playoffs
The win against Delhi Capitals was the 6th win for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They now are stationed 5th on the points table with 12 points to their name from 13 games with a massive NRR of +0.387, which is a huge positive for them.
To qualify for the playoffs, Royal Challengers Bengaluru need to make sure that they win their last game of the tournament. But this won't be enough for them as they need some other results to go their way in the Indian Premier League as other teams barring Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are also in contention.
If they win the last game they will go to 14 points but after that, they would also want Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants to lose one of their remaining games. This will keep Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Lucknow Super Giants on 14 points. If the Faf du Plessis-led side then beat Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs or chase target in 18.1 overs then they will pip the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side on NRR and bag the fourth position on the table.
