Former cricketer Michael Vaughan slammed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for not getting their auction planning right in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that they needed some solid player at 5 or 6 who could strike from ball 1.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is having a decent campaign in the IPL 2023. They have won 3 out of their 6 games and are currently placed 6th on the points table. One of the main things that is concerning for them is their middle order.

Apart from skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell no other batter has fired, which has been the main reason why they have lost three matches. In the ongoing game against RR, something similar was on the show as apart from three batters, none of them clicked.
Virat Kohli bagged a golden duck against RR but after that, Faf du Plessis (62) and Glenn Maxwell (77) led the rescue charge and did the bulk of the scoring and helped their side post a total of 189 runs. But none of the batters apart from them stepped up as Shahbaz Ahmed (2), Mahipal Lomror (8), Dinesh Karthik (16) and others failed.

Michael Vaughan pointed out how RCB didn’t do well in the auction and lacked a batter at 6 and 7. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he elaborated:
When Yuzvendra Chahal went to Rajasthan, they didn’t get their auction planning right. Clearly, they are top heavy, they’ve got these three outstanding players at the top. Then they have got DK who comes in for the last eight balls, that’s his contract,”
“They would have been better off keeping Yuzi Chahal, saving the money they spent on Hasaranga and buying a number 5 or number 6, a striker. The hardest place to bat in T20 cricket is 5, 6 and 7. There are a lot of players in world cricket that can bat at 1, 2 and 3 in T20s but not many successful ones at 5,6 and 7.”

RCB vs RR: “RCB need someone like a Jitesh Sharma,” says Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan further went on to say that RCB needed someone like Jitesh Sharma or Shimron Hetmyer or Nicholas Pooran in the lower order. He added:
“RCB need someone like a Jitesh Sharma, someone who just goes out there and launches from ball 1, or Shimron Hetmyer or Nicholas Pooran. That style of player coming in at 5 or 6 is what RCB need. In terms of batting, that’s the purest batting line-up that you could come up with in T20 cricket.”
While defending the target, RCB started the innings on high as Mohammed Siraj removed Jos Buttler for a duck and gave his side a rollicking start.
