Royal Challengers Bangalore Women hosts the Gujarat Giants in match 5 of WPL 2024 in Bengaluru on Tuesday, February 27. The match starts at 7.30 pm IST and is the fifth game to be played in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru will host the first 11 games after which the remaining phase including the Eliminator and the final will be played in Delhi. The two teams faced each other last season and won one game each. Both the games were high-scoring encounters.

RCB women will be led by Smriti Mandhana. Her side finished fourth last season and won just two games. However, this season they started with a win against the UP Warriorz.

RCB defending 12 runs managed to win off the last over. Mandhana however, had a difficult time with the bat scoring just 13. She is yet to score a fifty in the WPL.

They have a star-studded lineup with the likes of Elysse Perry, Sophie Devine, Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux, Renuka Singh Thakur and Shreyanka Patil. However, the lesser-known Sobhana Asha was the trump card for RCB in the last game taking 5/22.

Gujarat Giants will have Ben Mooney back at the helm after she missed the first season with a calf injury. Se getting ruled out took the sting attack out of the Giants squad who found it tough winning last season. Cheatle has opted out due to health concerns replaced by the Kiwi pacer Lea Tahuhu.

In this new season they bagged Meghna Singh for Rs 30 lakh, Trisha Poojitha for Rs 10 lakh, Priya Mishra for Rs 20 lakh, Lauren Cheatle for Rs 30 lakh, Kathryn Bryce for Rs 10 lakh, Mannat Kashyap for Rs 10 lakh), Veda Krishnamurthy for Rs 30 lakh and Tarannum Pathan for Rs 10 lakh).

Thus there are plenty of Indian players on the side. They bagged Indian all-rounder Kashvee Gautam but she was ruled out with an injury. Mumbai’s Sayali Sathgare replaced her in the squad.
