Australian captain Pat Cummins expressed confidence ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 final, stating that his team will be prepared for any challenges posed by the pitch. Pat Cummins emphasized that the conditions would be the same for both teams in the final.
The Pat Cummins-led team is set to compete in the final against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. The focus is on the pitch, especially after the Australian media reports suggested that BCCI doctored the pitch for the semifinal.
It’s The Same For Both Teams – Pat Cummins
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Pat Cummins acknowledged the potential advantages of the home team in the World Cup. Cummins emphasized that the Australian players have gained substantial experience playing cricket in India.
“I’m not a great pitch reader, but it looked pretty firm. They’ve only just watered it, so yeah, give it another 24 hours and have a look, but it looks like a pretty good wicket,” he said. “Yes, I think Pakistan played someone there,” he added.
“It’s the same for both teams. No doubt playing on your wicket in your own country has some advantages, similar to wickets that you’ve been playing your whole life. But we’ve played a lot of cricket over here,” Cummins told reporters.
The five-time world champions started their campaign with back-to-back losses against India and South Africa. However, they bounced back and secured eight consecutive wins in the tournament. They beat the Proteas in the semi-finals to secure a berth in the final game.
We’ll Be Ready For Anything They’ll Throw At Us – Pat Cummins
The Australian skipper stated that the toss may not be as crucial at the Narendra Modi Stadium compared to other venues. He expressed readiness for any conditions and emphasized the importance of having plans in place for the summit clash.
“I think, of all the venues, perhaps this venue – the toss isn’t as important as, say, a Mumbai Wankhede Stadium or other venues. So, we’ll be ready in terms of anything they’ll throw at us. Yeah, we’ll wait and see, but we’ll make sure we have some plans,” he added.
Cummins has the chance to lead Australia to their sixth World Cup victory in ODIs. Allan Border (1987), Steve Waugh (1999), Ricky Ponting (2003 and 2007), and Michael Clarke (2015) achieved in the past. Australia lost their last World Cup final in 1996 against Sri Lanka.
