In a major development, the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship will now take place between June 18-22 at the ‘Home of Cricket’ Lord’s with June 23 acting as a reserve day.

Earlier, the summit clash was scheduled to take place between June 10 to 14.

According to a report published in news agency ANI, the World Test Championship final has been postponed keeping in mind its proximity with the IPL 2021 final and the quarantine requirements that the players might have to oblige to in the wake of the global pandemic.

India’s Test series win against Australia has significantly boosted their chances of making it to the summit clash of the World Test Championship. Virat Kohli’s men are currently at the No.1 spot in the points with 71.7 cumulative percentage points after having accumulated 430 points out of 600.

India will play one more series against England at home and they will need to win the four-match rubber by a margin of either 2-0 or 3-1 to ensure that they stay clear of New Zealand, who are currently at the No.2 spot with 70 cumulative percentage points.

Australia, on the other hand, is currently at the No.3 spot and they will have to ensure that they beat South Africa by at least 2-0 in the three-match series to ensure a top-2 finish.

Meanwhile, the ECB announced on Monday that it will be hosting New Zealand for a two-match Test series to kickstart its home summer.

Joe Root’s men will lock horns against the Kane Williamson-led Kiwis in two Tests which will take place at Lord’s from June 02-06 followed by the final Test at Edgbaston between June 10-14. The series, however, will not be a part of the World Test Championship.

England, meanwhile, is currently at the No.4 spot and they will need to beat India by a margin of at least 3-0 to harbor any chance of making it to Lord’s for the titular clash.
