In yet another blow to the IPL, Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders seamer Pat Cummins has revealed that he will not be returning to take part in the second phase of the cash-rich league.
The BCCI, on Saturday, announced the remaining games of the IPL will take place in the United Arab Emirates in September.
However, apart from the logistic and bio-bubble challenges, the most pressing issue that the BCCI will have to deal with is to ensure that overseas cricketers make themselves available for the remaining 31 games.
But, with almost every team already having bilateral commitments in the lead-up to the ICC T20 World Cup, it will be a herculean task for the BCCI to convince other boards to release their players.
England’s Director of Cricket, Ashley Giles has already made it clear that no English cricketer, even if they are resting, will be allowed to take part in the IPL.
And, now the richest cricket board has suffered another jolt, with Pat Cummins confirming that he will not be returning to take part in the IPL if a report published in the Sydney Morning Herald is to be believed.
“David Warner and Pat Cummins could be rested from the West Indies tour because of family reasons – others could follow after a draining year in several bubbles – and Cummins, despite a multimillion-dollar IPL contract, has already said he will not return to the T20 tournament this season,” stated the report as quoted by Sportstar.
Pat Cummins, who has a multi-million dollar contract, featured in seven matches for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021, in which he claimed 9 wickets at an average of 26.33 and an economy rate of 8.83 besides scoring 93 runs at a strike rate of 166.07.
