Virat Kohli's fan following is well-known across the cricketing world. The veteran cricketer has easily the highest no. of fans in the world currently and is also a social media icon.

Fans across the world want to get a glimpse of their favorite star. During the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways, the spectators had gathered in thousands of numbers just to watch him play.

On Day 3 of the match, three excited intruders charged onto the field when Kohli was fielding at cover. The incident happened during the 18th over of Railways' second innings just before lunch.

A no. of security personnel rushed onto the pitch from all directions to catch the intruders and take them out of the ground. It was a huge security breach since multiple no. of intruders had entered the playing area.

What did the intruders appeal to Virat Kohli?

After the end of the match, Delhi offspinner Shivam Sharma revealed that the three intruders had requested Virat Kohli not to be beaten up by the security later. He further made it clear that the intruders were released later without having been done anything to them.

"This is Virat's craze, but at the same time it was not right for them to run inside the ground. No, Virat (Kohli) bhaiya didn't say anything specific, but yes, anything could have happened if they brought anything with them," Shivam said to the reporters.

"Those three people had just requested to Virat that they should not be beaten up. So, those three people were just taken away and nothing was done to them," he added.

Not a great match for Virat Kohli

Kohli didn't have a great time with the bat and was dismissed for just 6 off 15 balls by the Railways pacer Himanshu Sangwan. Kohli had just smashed Sangwan for a four down the ground in the previous delivery but was immediately dismissed off the next ball.

His dismissal left the fans in shock as they had come in thousands to watch their favorite star play. The fans, who had come from various parts of the country, had started gathering outside the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the early morning just to get a glimpse of Kohli.

While he was dismissed cheaply, Delhi went on to win the match by a big margin of an innings and 19 runs. It was a dominating display by the home team on a pitch conducive for bowlers.

Virat Kohli's first Ranji match in 12 years

Virat Kohli played a Ranji Trophy match after a gap of 12 years. He last played in the Ranji Trophy way back in 2012 when Indian stalwarts like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were also representing the side.

Kohli decided to play Ranji Trophy after the BCCI made it compulsory for its centrally contracted players to make themselves available for domestic cricket. He has been in poor form with the bat lately having scored just 190 runs in five Tests at an average of 23.75 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
