India pacer Mohammed Shami is nearing his full fitness after a long injury layoff. As per the reports in India Today, it is learned that the right-arm fast bowler will be making his return to the Indian team in the Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team later this year.

Mohammed Shami was last seen in action during the ICC World Cup 2023. But during the tournament, he experienced pain in his ankle and decided to play even if he was in discomfort. He took injections and painkillers, giving his best for the team and ending as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 24 wickets to his name.

After that, Mohammed Shami was rested for a while and it was expected that his injury would heal itself. But it was much worse than expected as he then had to undergo surgery and after consultations with experts from BCCI, he went abroad for the going under the knife.

Mohammed Shami underwent an operation on his right Achilles tendon in February and is currently under rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy under the guidance of Dr Nitin Patel (Head of Sports Science and Medicine at NCA) and Strength & Conditioning coach Rajinikanth.

Mohammed Shami has been putting in hard yards at the NCA. There were recent reports that fast bowlers have resumed bowling in the nets. Although he isn't bowling in full throttle, the pacer isn't having any discomfort in rolling his arms and is likely to be declared fit soon.

India will be hosting Bangladesh in the two-match Test series and the three-match T20I series. The first Test will be played from 19th September in Chennai and the second game will take place from 27th September in Kanpur. The red-ball series will be marking Mohammed Shami's comeback and it will be a huge boost for Team India.

The series against Bangladesh will be a massive opportunity for Mohammed Shami to get into the groove for the upcoming Test series against Australia. India will be going down under for the five-match Test series and Shami no doubt will be a massive factor for the team.

Mohammed Shami missed crucial games for India

Earlier when Mohammed Shami got injured, it was expected that he would make a return in the Test series against South Africa last year. But his injury forced him to miss the series along with some or the other crucial games for the India National Cricket Team including the Test series against England.

Mohammed Shami also didn't feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and also was ruled out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. With him now likely to make a comeback during the Test series against Bangladesh, he would be eager to make up for the time loss.

Mohammed Shami at the NCA is working hard on fitness and a range of mobility exercises. The fast bowler has been doing the exercise on core activation, strength building and compound movements.
