In a huge blow for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the star India National Cricket Team all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

The 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Delhi Capitals is currently underway on Monday, May 5, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Nitish Kumar Reddy is unwell

Sunrisers Hyderabad made three changes to their Playing XI for the do-or-die match against the Delhi Capitals. SRH included Sachin Baby, Abhinav Manohar, and Eshan Malinga in the team in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Shami, and Kamindu Mendis.

The absence of star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy came as a major surprise, as he is one of the top players in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad and was retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Notably, Nitish Kumar Reddy has not been dropped from the side, and his absence has been due to a stomach infection. The development was confirmed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad on their official social media handles.

"Nitish Kumar Reddy misses out tonight as he's unwell," the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) posted on their official X handle.

Want to do the basics well - Pat Cummins

Speaking at the toss, SRH captain Pat Cummins emphasized on the importance of doing the basics right in the remainder of the tournament. He said:

"Want to do the basics well. It's about giving yourself the chance, everyone's a match-winner. We bat very deep.

"The support has been amazing, probably haven't had the results we wanted but the crowd has been amazing. Buzzing around in the field, that's one thing we can judge ourselves on."

We want to have close games, even if we lose, we don't want to lose by big margins - Axar Patel

Meanwhile, DC captain Axar Patel said that they have tried to keep a light environment in the dressing room amid their poor performances in the last few games.

He added that they need to continue with the momentum and avoid losing the matches by big margins. Axar Patel elaborated:

"Will look to get a good score and restrict them. The last phase is here and these are must-win games. We've tried to keep the environment light, we weren't thinking about these things at the start of the tournament and we played well, want to go into these games with the same mindset and not let the situation pressure us.

"We've had different players contribute, we haven't been dependant on one player. It's important to continue the momentum. We want to have close games, even if we lose, we don't want to lose by big margins. Same combination, three seamers and three spinners."
