Team India middle-order batter Rinku Singh has showered praise on head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 9. Rinku also stated that Gambhir creates a relaxed atmosphere in the dressing room by encouraging players and giving them freedom.
Rinku Singh has been named in India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025. He smashed an unbeaten 108 runs for Meerut Mavericks in the UPT20 at Lucknow, including eight sixes. The knock came just days after the squad announcement. India will kick off their Asia Cup campaign on September 10.
Gautam Gambhir Backs Every Player Well - Rinku Singh
Speaking to News24, Rinku Singh said that Gautam Gambhir backed him during his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) days. Rinku revealed that he enjoys music and even joins in on fun moments with senior players.
"He backs every player well. During my KKR days, he backed them a lot. He gives freedom to all the players and says go play and do whatever you want to do. You all know that he is aggressive, and one good thing about him is that he likes to win a lot. He always sits during the match and also keeps praying. He also supports a lot," Rinku told News24.
"It is not that he is always serious. He likes to listen to songs in the dressing room. Ramandeep used to be a DJ in our room. He used to play songs and Gambhir likes to create a cool vibe. He also used to have fun and jokes with the senior players," he added.
Gautam Gambhir Took Charge as India’s Head Coach After KKR’s IPL 2024 Triumph
Gautam Gambhir took charge as India’s head coach after playing a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2024 triumph under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.
The left-handed batter started his tenure with a loss against Sri Lanka in the ODI series. India then suffered Test defeats against New Zealand and Australia. However, the Indian team recorded a victory during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Men in Blue showed fighting spirit during the five-match Test series against England. The Shubman Gill-led side drew the series 2-2 despite trailing 1-2 after three Tests.
Gambhir will be hoping to guide the team to victory in the Asia Cup 2025. He will once again join Rinku Singh, who is also part of India’s squad for the tournament.
Rinku Singh’s Performances in Franchise and T20I Cricket
Rinku Singh had a breakthrough season with 474 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023. Singh made his T20I debut against Ireland in 2023. He played several match-winning knocks for India early on but was only named a travelling reserve for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The left-handed batter scored only 168 runs in IPL 2024, followed by 206 runs in 2025 at a decent strike rate with limited opportunities down the order.
Rinku has scored 546 runs in 33 T20Is at an average of 42 and a strike rate above 160. He was also part of a 190-run unbeaten stand with Rohit Sharma against Afghanistan in January 2024, where he contributed 69 off 39 balls.
