Delhi Capitals pacer Avesh Khan heaps rich praises on skipper Rishabh Pant, who was appointed as the captain of the side for IPL 2021 in absence of the injured Shreyas Iyer.

Before the suspension of the season following the covid-19 outbreak in franchises earlier in May, Pant has led the side to the top of the points table with 6 wins in 8 games.

Avesh Khan has been one of the finds of the season. The right-arm seamer has taken 14 wickets so far, including those of Faf du Plessis, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli. His economy of 7.70 and bowling strike rate of 12.86 is commendable.

The pacer speaks about Pant’s captaincy and leadership on the field and how the wicket-keeper encourages everyone off the field as well.

“Rishabh and I are good friends. We spend time together ever after matches, sometimes we have dinner together as well. Our discussions revolve around cricket mostly. He displayed good leadership skills. The result is proof.

“He rotated his bowlers well. I enjoyed a lot playing under him. His form with the bat was excellent as well. He’s always encouraging us during the team meetings, always keeps the team above everything else,” Avesh Khan told CricketNext.

My dream has always been to play for India: Avesh Khan

The 24-year-old’s impressive performances in the IPL, and in domestic cricket – 100 wickets in 26 First-Class matches – have been rewarded with a ticket to the UK. Avesh Khan has been selected as one of the four stand-by players to fly to England for the Test assignments.

The youngster says it has been his dream to represent the country since his under-19 days. While the competition for places in the Indian side is immense, not least amongst the pacers, which is unprecedented in Indian cricket, Avesh Khan would be itching to don the national jersey soon.

“From the day, I wore the U-19 India jersey, my dream has always been to play for India. There’s no specific age to play for India as such. Wearing the national team’s jersey and cap gives an altogether different feeling. Since my U-19 days, I had this target to represent my country as soon as possible,” the Madhya Pradesh speedster stated.
