India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill has dropped a massive injury update on the vice-captain and star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.
Shubman Gill confirmed that Rishabh Pant "should be fine" to take part in the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which will be played at Old Trafford from July 23.
Rishabh Pant sustained an injury while keeping
India National Cricket Team suffered a massive injury blow during the Lord's Test match against England National Cricket Team when Rishabh Pant hurt the index finger of his left hand.
The incident happened on the first ball of the 34th over of the first innings when the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery to Ollie Pope angling down leg-side, and the English batter looked to flick it away but missed completely.
The ball went towards Rishabh Pant, who dived across to stop the ball but couldn't collect it and was struck on the index finger of his left hand.
He looked in tremendous pain after suffering the blow and received treatment from a physiotherapist. After the end of the over, he was replaced by Dhruv Jurel as the substitute wicket-keeper for the rest of the game.
However, he batted in both innings of the match despite feeling pain. In the first innings, he scored a crucial 74 off 112 balls, before getting run out by Ben Stokes, and in the second innings, he scored 9 off 12 before Jofra Archer sent his off-stump cartwheeling.
I think he should be fine for the next Test match - Shubman Gill
Speaking to the reporters after India's heartbreaking 22-run defeat in the third match against the Three Lions, skipper Shubman Gill confirmed that Rishabh Pant doesn't have any major injury and would be fine for the Manchester Test.
"He went for scans. I think Rishabh is fine—he didn’t suffer a major injury, which is good news. I think he should be fine for the next Test match," Shubman Gill said at the post-match press conference after their defeat at Lord's, as quoted by India Today.
Gill also lauded the veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his fighting 61* runs in the fourth innings.
"One of the most experienced players on the side and the way he performed and partnered with the lower order, it was incredible," Gill said, as quoted by RevSportz.
Yesterday's 1 hour and today's 1 hour we didn't play good - Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill further criticised the Indian batting unit for not performing well while chasing the target. He said:
"Yesterday's 1 hour and today's 1 hour we didn't play good. The top order didn't fire. 30-40 runs more should have been scored by the top order. But this was the first time the top order failed. But the way Jaddu bhai and Siraj played, kudos to them!"
Gill also rued the fact that India gave too many extras, which eventually cost them the match. He said:
"We're getting better with the fielding however we committed some unforced errors. We could have saved a few boundaries. Still the target was chaseable."
