Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has praised wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant ahead of the second and final Test against Bangladesh. Yuvraj Singh also compared Rishabh Pant with legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist in terms of impact while batting in the middle order.
Rishabh Pant's return to cricket has been remarkable after suffering injuries in a tragic accident in December 2022. The young batter made a successful comeback during the IPL 2024 season. He earned a selection in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 and played a crucial role in the title win.
The left-handed batter made a return to red-ball cricket during the Duleep Trophy 2024 before rejoining the national Test team. He scored a century in his comeback against Bangladesh in Chennai. His performance, resilience, and determination during the first Test earned applause from Yuvraj.
Rishabh Pant Has A Lot Of Adam Gilchrist In Him - Yuvraj Singh
On the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, Yuvraj Singh said that Rishabh Pant can change the outcome of the match single-handedly when batting in the middle order. Yuvraj said that Rishabh has a lot of Gilchrist in him and added that he is a match-winner for India in Test cricket.
"Rishabh has a lot of Gilchrist in him as he comes in and changes the game when he walks in at number five and six. Actually, I mention to Pant a lot about how Gilchrist changed the middle order batting in Tests, about what his approach was. He is definitely a match-winner at number five and six for us in Tests," Yuvraj said in the Club Prairie Fire Podcast.
Rishabh made his Test debut in 2018 against England. The left-handed batter has scored 2,419 runs in 34 Test matches at an average of 44.80 and a strike rate of 74.11, including six centuries. Pant has recorded one century each in Australia and South Africa, along with two centuries in England.
Rishabh Pant Smashed Century In India's Second Innings
Rishabh Pant made a strong return to Test cricket during the Bangladesh series. The 26-year-old cricketer scored a quick century in the second innings of the first match of the series. The batter moved to sixth position in the ICC Test rankings after an impressive batting display during the series opener.
The wicketkeeper-batter scored 109 runs off 128 balls at a strike rate of 85.16 during India's second innings against Bangladesh in Chennai. He smashed 13 fours and 4 maximums before he was dismissed by Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 56th over of India's second innings.
Pant has returned to action for the second and final Test against Bangladesh, which is underway at the Green Park in Kanpur. The final Test match commenced on Friday, September 27.
