Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins has revealed that the Aussies are ready with the plans to deal with the threat of the 'dangerous' India National Cricket Team keeper-batter Rishabh Pant in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Pat Cummins acknowledged the aggressive gameplay of Rishabh Pant in Test cricket and said that they have 'sound plans' in place that would help them to keep the wicketkeeper-batsman quiet.

Rishabh Pant averages 62.40 in Australia

The star India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has a great record in Australia in Test cricket. He has played numerous match-winning knocks for India on Australian soil and will be a big threat to the opposition in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Rishabh Pant has played 7 Test matches against Australia and all of them have come on Australian soil. In those matches, he scored 624 runs at an amazing average of 62.40 and a strike rate of 72.13.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has slammed one hundred and two fifties Down Under, with the best score of 159*. However, his most memorable innings against Australia in Test cricket came at the Gabba as he slammed an unbeaten 89 and guided India to a historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory.

So yeah, we know he can be dangerous - Pat Cummins on Rishabh Pant

Speaking to Hindustan Times ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Pat Cummins said that they are hopeful that their plans to keep Rishabh Pant quiet will work. He stated:

"Yeah, he is someone who always moves the game on pretty quickly, so for some of the players, you have to have some sound plans, too. He's played well, he had a good series out here in Australia next time. So yeah, we know he can be dangerous when he gets going, so [we'll] try and have some good plans and hope they come off."

Pant looked the best Indian batter in the recent home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. He looked at his very best and slammed four fifties, including a heartbreaking 99, and an excellent century.

He's obviously a class bowler who I'm sure India will miss but it's a Test match - Pat Cummins

The veteran India National Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and Pat Cummins feels that India will definitely miss the services of the right-arm pacer. He said:

"Yeah, look, hard to say. Shami wasn't there. I think he only played the Adelaide Test in the last series. He's obviously a class bowler who I'm sure India will miss but it's a Test match. There's always another player that steps up and we must be wary of.

Pat Cummins further spoke about the switch of Steve Smith's batting position back to the No.4 in the Australia Test XI. He said that with Cameron Green ruled out, they felt it was ideal for Smith to move back to his original position. He said:

"Smithy wanted to try out opening last year or early this year. We thought that set up the team quite well. With Cam Green injured and going to miss this summer, I think it was time to revisit what we thought was our best batting line-up. Smithy, being the team man he is, was happy to slot back down at number 4."
