Rohit Sharma Captain, Rishabh Pant Out!! India ODI Squad for Sri Lanka series

India is set to tour Sri Lanka for an ODI and T20I series in July 2024. The India tour of Sri Lanka 2024 will witness three ODIs and three T20Is. Both Asian sides will wrestle on Sri Lanka soil for a bilateral series after 2021.

Rohit Sharma is expected to lead India in the ODI series and India will send a full-fledged squad for the tour. Notably, BCCI sent an inexperienced team last time in 2021 that lost the T20I series under Coach Rahul Dravid. Also, COVID cases in Indian camps affected their health.

Hence, this time, selectors won't risk sending an experienced squad for the ODI series. Also, it is the preparation ground for the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 next year, which will be hosted by Pakistan.

Notably, Rahul Dravid is all set to resign after the ongoing T20 World Cup and according to some reports, Gautam Gambhir is going to take the Head Coach's responsibility. This is due to his success as KKR mentor in IPL 2024.

Rohit Sharma-led Men-in-Blue has been a dominating team in ODI cricket and they will have another chance to try their luck in an ICC event next year. Below we glance at the predicted India ODI squad of the Sri Lanka series.

India ODI Squad for Sri Lanka series

Openers- Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill

Rohit Sharma is the skipper of India in all three formats and the team has gained a lot of success in the last few years. Hence, the right-handed batsman will also lead the side in the Sri Lanka series.

India won the Asia Cup last year under Sharma, which was also a multi-nation ODI tournament. Sharma will also play the role of opener. The two other openers will be Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal

Middle-Order Batters- Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav

Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer will be part of the middle order. Notably, Kohli is as evergreen as he was in the last decade, smacking runs like a machine. Also, Shreyas Iyer has shown consistent form in the longest format after his back recovery.

Suryakumar Yadav has struggled in ODIs but has been a regular member of the side. Notably, Yadav is a T20I champion and in some ODI games, the team needs T20I-style batting and Yadav can be a useful member of the squad.

Wicketkeepers- KL Rahul and Sanju Samson

KL Rahul and Sanju Samson are the two possible members who can be wicketkeepers for the India tour of Sri Lanka 2024. Pant has shown stunning form after his recovery this year.

Sanju Samson and KL Rahul have impressed in the ODI format and also played match-winning knocks on multiple occasions. Notably, all three can add depth to the middle order.

All-Rounders- Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja

All-rounders will play a big role in the India vs Sri Lanka ODI series. Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja are the top three choices of all-rounders for ODIs currently.

While Pandya is a medium-pace all-rounder who can act as a fourth seamer, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are left-arm spinner who can smack runs all over the park. The trio will add depth to both batting, spin, and pace department.

Spinners- Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal

The Kul-Cha Jodi is back in the Indian team and there is healthy competition between both spinners. While Kuldeep is a left-arm spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal is a right-arm spinner. Thus, they give complete variation to the spin attack.

Pacers- Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj have been an invincible set of pacers for India since the start of this decade. The trio is the base of India's pace attack and has become a nightmare for all teams in international cricket.

Hence, Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj will be the best set of bowlers for India in the Sri Lanka ODIs. People still remember the mayhem created by Siraj vs Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final last, when he clocked a 6-wicket haul to dominate them. Bumrah and Shami also played a big role and the three dominated world giants in the ODI World Cup too.
