Indian white-ball captain and opener, Rohit Sharma, has been cleared to return to the national team setup after clearing the fitness Tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

West Indies will be touring India for a white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is, starting February 6. The squad for the same will be confirmed after Rahul Dravid and the selectors convene in the next couple of days.

Rohit will meet the selection committee at the NCA on Wednesday, having fully recovered from a hamstring injury that ruled him out of India’s tour of South Africa. KL Rahul led the side in the ODIs against South Africa which the hosts won 3-0.

West Indies series to be Rohit Sharma’s first outing as full-time white-ball captain

Rohit has captained India on away tours in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka before but he has never led the side in both white-ball formats after taking over from Virat Kohli last month.

Kohli stepped down as the T20I captain before being sacked as the ODI skipper. The series continues to help prepare for both sides as they seek to settle their squads for the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

All-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya may not be included in the squad as they need a green light from the NCA physios. As per a report in Cricbuzz, Hardik is yet to regain his full fitness, something that has forced the selectors to start looking at other options.
