'Rohit Sharma has got same capability as MS Dhoni' - S Sreesanth backs India captain to take the team to T20 WC glory

Former India cricketer S Sreesanth praised Team India skipper Rohit Sharma ahead of the semi-final against England in the T20 World Cup 2024. He correlated the opening batter with MS Dhoni and claimed that the right-hander could emulate what the keeper-batter did and could guide the team to win. 

India captain Rohit Sharma has been terrific as the leader in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The opening batter has been tactically sound as the leader and has been spot-on with the way he has captained the team in the tournament, underway in the Caribbean. 

Rohit Sharma has done his preparations well as the captain of the team. Whatever he has touched has turned into gold and his players have also repaid his faith magnificently well. The kind of bowling changes and field placements that he has set surely have been the difference for the team in the tournament. 

Under his leadership, India have been undefeated. They won all their games in the tournament and have been sensational. They would now be seen in action when they will take on England in the semi-final. The match will be played on Thursday (27th June) at Providence Stadium in Guyana. 

S Sreesanth lauded Rohit Sharma for the way he has used Axar Patel in the tournament. He also pointed out the catch that the all-rounder took of Mitchell Marsh in the game against Australia, saying that Axar didn't expect it to but his preparation was on top. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained: 

“Tactically, if you look at Axar Patel, a lot of people were questioning Axar Patel's ability in the middle overs. Whenever he's got an opportunity, he's come out with those crucial breakthroughs. In fact, even his economy rate is so low that it helps the other bowlers. 

"And the catch which Axar took, I think for me, that was the game-changer. Axar even said, 'I was not expecting the catch, but I just went with both hands and it happened to me.' That is because preparation is key. Rohit believes in that ability,” 

I think Rohit has got the same capability where he can surprise his own teammates - S Sreesanth 

S Sreesanth further praised Rohit Sharma, saying that the India captain can surprise his teammates just like MS Dhoni had. He recalled how the keeper-batter used to tell them about winning games with street smartness. He elaborated: 

"We always talk about Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) and how we won the World Cup and his street smartness. I think Rohit has got the same capability where he can surprise his own teammates. He might suddenly call up his teammates and say 'be ready.' Rohit believes in his instincts and intuition. 

"So, even when the captain does that and surprises his own teammates and tells every bowler to be ready, like Mahi Bhai used to do. He used to tell us, 'Shree (Sreesanth) be ready, Ajit (Agarkar) be ready, Bhajji (Harbhajan) be ready.' You can be called at any time because that's how games are won with street smartness," he concluded.
