Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been backed for being fast-tracked into the Indian team, with India looking to gear up for the ICC World Cup 2027. Sooryavanshi might emerge as a massive opposition for several senior players like Rohit Sharma, who are also targeting the spot.
Rajasthan Royals prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi went on to emerge as one of the most promising talents in recent times. He has impressed with his sheer stroke-making ability despite his young age of 15. The controversy around his age has also been subdued following his commanding form in the IPL.
The left-handed batter has amassed 579 runs across 13 innings in just the second season after his debut in the last season of the IPL. Sooryavanshi's most special feature remained his excellent ball-striking ability, reflected through his whopping strike rate of 236.
Sooryavanshi's India A series to be monitored by Indian selectors
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could soon be seen playing for the Indian Men's Senior National Cricket team. His batting form in the IPL has brought him into the Indian A squad for the upcoming tri-series, which features Tilak Varma as the captain of the side.
It has been reported that Sooryavanshi is likely to be monitored during his stint with the India A team, and if such form continues, then he is likely to break into the men's senior national cricket team.
His international debut would happen sooner or later, as the board officials in the BCCI and the Indian national selectors panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, are highly impressed with his batting ability. The extraordinary talent he possesses has been highlighted in recent times.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is in contention for the ICC World Cup 2027
Due to Sooryavanshi's growing popularity and backing from some major sponsors as well, Vaibhav is likely to be fast-tracked into the national side before the start of the ICC World Cup in 2027. He would then emerge as the youngest player to feature in a senior men's cricket World Cup.
“Sooryavanshi is bound to play for India in no time. The board members are all keen to see how he copes with international cricket after ruling the IPL,” a source told CricBlogger.
“If Sooryavanshi continues to impress the way he is doing at the moment, the sky is truly the limit for the young sensation,” the source added.
Rohit Sharma or Yashasvi Jaiswal, who shall Sooryavanshi replace in India's WC squad?
Rohit Sharma, the legendary Indian batter, is still in contention for the ICC World Cup spot. Though he is no longer the captain of the Indian team and his availability in the upcoming series, as well as the World Cup, is subject to fitness, he remains a crucial player for the Indian side.
With the vast amount of experience possessed by the Indian star, Sooryavanshi is not likely to replace the batter. He could hence be picked as his RR teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal's replacement. However, with time still left for the 2027 World Cup, Sooryavanshi has certainly arrived on the big stage; however, Indian cricket would need Rohit Sharma to continue his dominance in recent times.
