Rohit Sharma fans went furious on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for marking Shubman Gill as "Winning captain, Champions Trophy 2025" in the BCCI Naman Awards, which was held on Sunday. The purpose of the event was to honor the contributions of Indian cricketers to the game.

Along with the top Indian cricketers from the 2024-25 season, the board acknowledged the contributions of legendary figures such as Roger Binny, Rahul Dravid, and Mithali Raj.

The JioStar graphics mistakenly showed Shubman Gill as the Champions Trophy 2025 winning captain

The glittering all-star event was going all well until the graphical error showed up on the screen. The Indian Men’s cricket team won the Champions Trophy 2025 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. On the screen, it was shown that Shubman Gill was the captain who guided the team to lift the trophy.

Fans on social media platforms were absolutely furious with the board for the error, which had hurt the Rohit Sharma fans. “Winning captain ICC Champions trophy 2025 @BCCI, we thought Rohit Sharma was the captain”, an Indian cricket fan wrote on ‘X’, mentioning BCCI. While another person on the same platform wrote, “according to them, Shubman Gill was the Champions Trophy winning captain and not Rohit Sharma, unreal daylight robbery. @BCCI kuch toh sharm karo.”

Gill was awarded the Best Men’s International Cricketer

Meanwhile, Gill, the current captain of India’s ODI and Test teams, was awarded the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award as he was recognized as the Best Men’s International Cricketer for his performance during the particular season.

“Firstly, thank you to the BCCI for recognising me with this award. Many greats and legends of Indian cricket have received it before, so it is a huge honour for me to be here. What we as an Indian cricket group were able to achieve last year was truly tremendous - five ICC trophies, something I don't think has ever happened before," Gill said.

"I want to thank my teammates because none of this would have been possible without them. I would also like to thank my parents and family members for helping me reach where I am today. Thank you once again," Gill added.
