'Rohit Sharma Is A Liability For Team India, It's Tough To Foresee Him Playing The 2024 T20 World Cup'- Former India Chief Selector Slams Indian Captain

Former India opener Kris Srikkanth feels that Rohit Sharma is a liability to the T20I team and it’s tough for him to even get selected for T20 World Cup 2024 next year. Kris Srikkanth made these comments during a video conference.

Rohit Sharma is the captain of Team India in all three formats. However, since the start of 2023, he has been sidelined from the shortest format and vice-captain Hardik Pandya has led a young team in every game. Even for the forthcoming T20I series against West Indies, Hardik Pandya is set to lead Team India in the absence of Sharma.

Rohit Sharma Is A Liability To Indian Team: Kris Srikkanth

While speaking on a video conference about T20 World Cup 2024, Kris Srikanth noted how players like Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have been rested from the shortest format. He also mentioned that Rohit Sharma is a liability to the T20 team.

“Virat Kohli is obviously rested, Jadeja is obviously rested. Let me put in that way. These two guys are obviously rested. Rohit Sharma is tough to even get selected on 2024 T20 World Cup and he is liability to the team”, Kris Srikkanth said in the video. Have a glance at the video below.

Under Rohit Sharma, India failed to win ICC T20 World Cup 2022 last year. India witnessed some close finishes during the group stage but managed to pull off a win in every match. However, in the semi-final against England, India faced a huge defeat by 10 wickets.

Post the defeat, selectors opted to play a young squad in the shortest format led by new skipper Hardik Pandya. The Indian all-rounder was later named the vice-captain in limited-overs formats. Pandya has led the team to series-victory against Sri Lanka and New Zealand this year.

However, selectors did not remove Rohit Sharma as the T20I skipper. The Indian opener will lead India in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Along with Sharma, other senior players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Mohammed Shami have also not played any T20I game this year.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will take place next year. The venue of the event is West Indies and the United States, which will also host the tournament. India has only won one T20 World Cup title so far in 2007. England were the winners of the T20 World Cup 2022 last year.
