Rohit Sharma suffered a massive setback with a hamstring injury and retired hurt during his knock against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Finally, a report has claimed that he might be ruled out of the competition, following the injury.

Rohit Sharma was one of the finest performers for the Mumbai Indians in this season of the competition. The former MI skipper also topped the orange cap list on an occasion after the second game against the Delhi Capitals.

However, he had to walk out of the field after the MI opener struggled with a massive injury scare to his hamstring. He left the field, retiring hurt, but it hurt the side badly as the Hardik Pandya-led side lost the game by a close margin of 18 runs.

Rohit Sharma ruled out of the next two games for MI in IPL 2026

The former MI skipper Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury and retired hurt midway through the knock against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the TATA IPL 2026 game.

He underwent scans, and his availability is very uncertain for the upcoming games for the Mumbai Indians. Now, as per the latest reports from NDTV, he is likely to miss the next two matches for the Mumbai Indians.

The Mumbai Indians' next two matches in the TATA IPL 2026 are scheduled to be played against the Punjab Kings and the Gujarat Titans on the 16th and 20th of April, respectively. These two matches will be part of the rivalry week as well.

MI's woes increase after Rohit Sharma's sudden injury

The Mumbai Indians started off IPL 2026 with a win in the first game of the season. After the win, the Mumbai Indians have struggled with their recent form and have lost three consecutive games, which included matches against DC, RR and RCB.

Mumbai has struggled with the poor form of its players, especially those with the ball. None of their bowlers has played a fine enough knock, as they have gone for runs with an economy rate of over 12 on the majority of the occasions.

In the batting department, consistency is what has been lacking for the MI batters, and now, with Rohit Sharma no longer a part of the franchise for the next two games, the concerns would heighten as a major void would build around the opening spot.

Who will replace Rohit Sharma in the MI camp?

In Rohit Sharma's absence, MI would need an opener in the batting order. Mumbai might be considering Ryan Rickelton to open alongside Quinton de Kock, the other South African superstar who has been waiting for a chance in this edition of the IPL.

But under such circumstances, MI might not have a slot to pick another overseas cricketer in the bowling department. They would be backed by Sherfane Rutherford alongside another overseas cricketer in Will Jacks or Mitchell Santner.

However, if Jacks returns on time, then he might be used as the replacement opener in the side against the Punjab Kings. However, MI coach Kieron Pollard gave a hint on his return ahead of their upcoming game, which will be a positive for the side.
