Senior Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma, who was recently appointed as the white-ball captain of the Indian team, is all set to become the Test skipper soon, which will make him an all-format captain.
Batting maestro Virat Kohli had stepped from T20 International captaincy following India’s exit from the marquee ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 tournament and Rohit Sharma was named as the new skipper of the team and he led India in the home T20I series against New Zealand.

Also, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee wanted to have just one white-ball captain in the team so they sacked Virat Kohli as ODI skipper and gave the entire white-ball captaincy to Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul was named his deputy.
Senior middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane was removed from the Test vice-captaincy after his poor run with the bat for an extended period of time and Rohit was named as the new Test vice-captain as well. However, Rohit suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the important South Africa tour.
Meanwhile, now Rohit has returned and helped India win the first ODI of the three-match ODI series against West Indies in a dominating manner.
Rohit Sharma Set To Be Appointed As Test Captain Ahead Of The Sri Lanka Series
Virat Kohli had stepped down as Test captain after the 2-1 Test series defeat in South Africa and Rohit, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are being looked at as potential captaincy candidates with Rohit Sharma being the frontrunner.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, Rohit Sharma will be given the Test captaincy by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee ahead of the series against Sri Lanka, which will make him an all-format captain.
“A date for the selection committee meeting ahead of the series has not been finalised but whenever the Chetan Sharma-led committee meets, it is most likely to appoint Rohit Sharma as the skipper for the Tests, making him the India captain across formats,” as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The Sri Lanka tour of India 2022 is scheduled to begin from February 25 to March 18 and it consists of a three-match T20 International series and a two-match Test series.
