Rohit Sharma To Be Promoted As India's Test Vice-Captain With Selectors Planning To Drop Cheteshwar Pujara And Ajinkya Rahane- Reports

Recently-appointed Indian T20I captain Rohit Sharma is highly likely to become the Test team’s vice-captain, according to reports. The middle-order duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are also under the scanner owing to their poor performances of late.

For almost three years now, Pujara and Rahane have been misfiring. They provide glimpses of their past self very occasionally and this has led to the selectors becoming increasingly frustrated with them. As a result, their future is under deliberation at the moment.

As per a report in TOI, Rohit could be promoted to the vice-captain post if Rahane gets axed from the squad. There is also the possibility of seeing Shubman Gill bat in the middle-order after he lost his opening spot to KL Rahul.

Rohit Sharma likely to  get the promotion ahead of South Africa tour

The upcoming Test series against New Zealand will likely reveal how the newly-appointed head coach, Rahul Dravid, intends to take the team forward in the longest format. Certain changes in personnel are expected when the Kiwis arrive for their tour.

Even more importantly, following the New Zealand series will be the all-important South Africa tour. A win on Protean soil will be another big feather added to Virat Kohli‘s cap as the Test skipper, already having won series in Australia and England (tentatively).

As of now, the team is focused on completing the task at home against the Kiwis, who have won just two Tests on Indian soil in their history. Their previous win came back in 1988 but Kane Williamson and co. will be eager to turn their fortunes this time around.
