Table toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) clashed with Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Monday (22nd April). The 38th game of the 17th edition of the tournament took place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. 

Rajasthan Royals claimed their 7th win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as they won the game by 9 wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur against Mumbai Indians (MI). They were right on the money with bat and ball and almost sealed a spot in the playoffs.

Mumbai Indians opted to bat first and they were off to a worst possible start. In-form batter Rohit Sharma (6) yet again perished to Trent Boult in the first over of the innings. To worsen the case more, Ishan Kishan fell for a duck in the second over as visitors were left tottering at 6/2. 

Suryakumar Yadav (10) tried to get going as well but he too couldn't play a big hand. Sandeep Sharma removed him in the 4th over as Mumbai Indians lost their top three for just 20 runs. Mohammad Nabi (23) tried to up the ante with his power-hitting but it didn't last long as the Hardik Pandya-led side was reduced to 52/4. 

However, it was then that Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera joined hands and bailed Mumbai Indians out of trouble. The duo took the attack to the Rajasthan Royals bowlers and brought their team back in the game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, getting some quick runs in the middle. 

The duo added 99 runs for the 5th wicket before Nehal Wadhera got out for 99 runs. Tilak Varma on the other hand played a vital innings of 65 runs and made sure that his side got a fighting total. Mumbai Indians lost wickets in the end but ended with a total of 179 runs on the board. 

For Rajasthan Royals, Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers. He took a fifer on his return after injury. Apart from him Trent Boult also picked 2 wickets whereas Avesh Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with one wicket each as they restricted opposition to below par total.

In the chase, Rajasthan Royals were off to a magnificent start with the bat. Openers in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler looked pleasing to the eyes as they batted well and put Mumbai Indians bowlers under immense pressure at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. 

The duo added 74 runs for the opening stand before Jos Buttler got out for 35 runs. After that Jaiswal (104*) racked up a magnificent century with the bat and made sure that he returned to form, having bagged low scores in the past few games in the IPL 2024. 

Skipper Sanju Samson (38*)  also played a vital innings with the bat as Rajasthan Royals chased the target with 9 wickets in hand. They registered their 7th win of the season and now look like favorites to qualify for the playoffs.
