Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan was very critical of the slow overrate in the World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia at the Oval in London. Michael Vaughan believes that the fines weren’t enough to stop the slow overrate during the matches.

Indian bowlers managed to bowl 85 overs in the allotted time on the opening day of the match. A total of 44 overs of play, which is half of the day’s play, were lost in the five days due to the slow overrate. The bowlers didn’t bowl full overs despite the extra 30 minutes of game added every day.

Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to share his opinion on the slow overrate and said that the batting should be awarded an extra 20 runs per over.

“Fines don’t work .. So Runs awarded to the Batting team at the end of the days play could be the only way .. 20 runs per over ..” Michael Vaughan tweeted.

India And Australia Slapped With Heavy Fines

The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined India and Australia for maintaining a slow over rate during the match. Australia have been fined 80% of their match fee, while India have been fined their entire match fee. The teams struggled to bowl 90 overs in a day in the summit clash.

India are five overs short of the target, while the Aussies are four overs short. Players will be fined 20% of their match fees for every over they fail to bowl in the allotted time. The Pat Cummins-led team served for the first time in the WTC cycle, while India were deducted five points for slow overrate.
