DC Vs CSK
PC; X

A total misunderstanding between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Jamie Overton when they both went for a catch.

It could be one of the easy catches of the Delhi Capitals vs Chennai Super Kings (DC vs CSK) match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, but they dropped the chance.

CSK's Jamie Overton and Ruturaj Gaikwad missed an easy catch vs DC

In the end, none of them made the final call for the catch, and the ball eventually dropped between Gaikwad and Overton. Delhi Capitals batter Sameer Rizvi was gifted a lifeline on the fourth ball of the 19th over of the first innings of the 49th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

In between the miscommunication of the fielders, the batters of DC stole a single as well. However, in the very next ball of the over, Overton took the wicket of Tristan Stubbs for CSK. Rizvi, who came to bat in the first innings as the impact player for the Delhi Capitals, remains not out for 40 runs off 24 balls to secure a competitive total of 155 runs for 7 in 20 overs.

Axar Patel elected to bat first vs CSK

Axar Patel, the DC captain, won the toss and decided to bat first against CSK. However, the batters of the Delhi Capitals did not provide justice to the faith shown by their skipper. KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka departed quickly and left Delhi defenceless in the earliest stage of the first innings. In 11 overs, DC, the home team for the match, lost half of their batters.

Apart from Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs, none of the DC batters were able to cross even the 20-run mark on their individual basis. For CSK, Noor Ahmed claimed a brace, and one wicket each for Akeal Hosein, Mukesh Choudhary, Jamie Overton, and Gurjapneet Singh.

Was it an ideal track to bat first?

There was rain in Delhi last night, and during the start of the match, the temperature was also not too hot. So, the weather conditions were slightly in favor of the batters in the first innings, but the surface looked hard, and some cracks on it as well.

“We've had a bit of rain this afternoon and last night, so thank the heavens, hopefully we won't see any more of that this evening. But it does mean it's a touch cooler, Bish, and we have had everything at this stadium, from being bowled out for 75 to posting 260, and it not being enough. Aesthetically, the wicket has had more cracks than my forehead at the moment, but for me, that doesn't mean a great deal,” former England captain Eoin Morgan said before the match, from the pitch side.

“It is rock-hard down there; it should be really, really good to bat on. But what I'd like to see from the bowlers, the bowlers that have been so successful at this ground, they've pitched it up, they've got it to swing within the first couple of overs, but they've been brave enough to continue with that line and length,” he added.
