Ruturaj Gaikwad Scores 4th Century In Vijay-Hazare Trophy; Becomes Only The 4th Batsman To Do So
Ruturaj Gaikwad continues his stupendous form with the bat as he smashed his fourth century in five innings in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). Playing for Maharashtra, the 24-year-old has set the stage alight in the group stages of the tournament.
Gaikwad scored a breathtaking 168 off 132 balls in the 310-run chase against Chandigarh in an Elite Group D match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. In his knock, the youngster scored 12 fours and six sixes, with the runs coming at a strike rate of 127.27.
Prior to this, Gaikwad had scored 136 against Madhya Pradesh, 154* against Chattisgarh, 124 against Kerala, and 21 against Uttarakhand. The latest century is his 11th in the List A category. With this, he has joined the likes of Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, and Prithvi Shaw in the list of batsmen with four or more centuries in a single Vijay Hazare season.

While Kohli managed to do it in the 2009-10 season, both Shaw and Padikkal achieved it in the previous edition. Gaikwad has scored a whopping 603 runs in five matches of VHT so far, averaging a monstrous 150.75 and an impressive strike rate of 112.92.

Earlier last month, CSK opted to retain Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The opener is being seen as one of the brightest prospects in the Indian cricketing future and his performances so far definitely suggest the same.

He will continue to play for the Chennai franchise for the next three years and is also on the verge of making it to the national team. Along with Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, and Moeen Ali were retained by the 4-time IPL champions.
