South Africa are all set to lock horns with the Netherlands in two ODIs commencing on 31st March. The 1st ODI was played in the Netherlands in November 2021 (*no result) but due to Covid-19, the remaining 2 ODIs were postponed. The Netherlands are out of the race of getting a direct qualification as they are languishing at the bottom of the table with 35 points from 22 matches and would be aiming to spoil the party of South Africa.
These remaining last 2 ODIs are extremely important for Proteas as they are part of the World Super League. South Africa are placed in 9th position in the World Super League points table with 78 points and with a Net Run Rate of -0.41.

If South Africa win the 2 ODIs then they would qualify directly for ICC World Cup 2023 which would take them to 98 points & would pip West Indies, who have 88 points with an NRR of -0.78. Notably, South Africa would be hoping that Ireland lose at least one match in the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in May because then only the Proteas will directly qualify.
We have named our strongest possible squad- Rob Walter
South Africa white ball head coach Rob Walter was quite optimistic that they can beat the Netherlands & secure a direct qualification for ODI WC 2023. With Temba Bavuma leading the side, the Proteas fans would be hoping that the team can continue their winning run after beating England in the ODI series & squaring the ODI leg against West Indies.
“We have named our strongest possible squad for these games given the importance of these matches in the context of qualifying for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. We have a job to do and I am confident that with this group of players, we can get the job done,” said Rob Walter.

Steep Road Ahead for Netherlands
Netherlands would be hoping that they can take inspiration from their T20 WC 2022 win over South Africa where they ended South Africa’s journey in T20 WC. Netherlands lost the ODI series against Zimbabwe by 1-2 but there was a cut-throat competition between the two teams.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has made it clear that all the IPL contracted players would first play in the ODI series & then IPL. It won’t be a surprise if Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi & Anrich Nortje take part in the playing 11 as we have seen how lethal the they can be on a given day.
