"Virender Sehwag Was The Most Dangerous Player"- Abdul Razzaq Opens Up On India's Toughest Cricketer

The rivalry between India & Pakistan is considered to be the biggest in World Cricket. Virender Sehwag had scored  1071 runs against Pakistan in ODIs where he used to rattle the bowlers with his brisk-stroke play. The battle between Virender Sehwag & Shoaib Akhtar was a memorable one where the viewers witnessed exhilarating contests.

Virender Sehwag was the most dangerous player- Abdul Razzaq

Abdul Razzaq was having an interaction with the Times of India & was asked which Indian players did Pakistan team during their playing days. Abdul Razzaq pointed out that it was not easy for the Men in Green as the Indian team had a lot of quality players present in the form of Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan & co. Abdul Razzaq also mentioned that the wickets of Sachin & Sehwag were of utmost importance to the team.

“Virender Sehwag was the most dangerous player. After that Sachin Tendulkar, Pakistan used to plan against Sehwag & Tendulkar. Our plan used to be like if we get these two wickets- Sehwag & Tendulkar, we will win the match. In bowling, our batsmen used to plan against Zaheer Khan. Irfan Pathan was there too for some time. Harbhajan Singh was there. These were the big names who played big matches & performed for their country,” said Abdul Razzaq.

“In the middle order, Yuvraj Singh was the one. Sehwag, Tendulkar, Yuvraj were the big big names. When we dismissed them, we used to say yes, we have taken big wickets today. These were the players Pakistan seriously planned against. The plan involved what & how to bowl, certain areas to bowl to them in, field setting, & trying different bowlers and deliveries against these batsmen. Similarly out batsmen played against Zaheer, Harbhajan & Irfan,” he added.

Concerns for ICC

The Asia Cup 2023 issue is being resolved where India will play their matches at a neutral venue including the final (*if they qualify) but now according to multiple reports, PCB is not sending its team to India for ODI WC 2023 citing security reasons. The ICC must intervene & find a middle ground as India vs Pakistan rivalry is considered to be one of the greatest.

ODI WC 2023 is quite important for BCCI as they have received a lot of flak for not winning an ICC tournament since 2013. The team has failed in crunch matches due to which all the hard work gets ruined. The billion people would be hoping that under the regime of BCCI President Roger Binny, the team ends the drought of 9 years.
