Sachin Tendulkar has taken another dig at former ICC Umpire Steve Bucknor since the batter, despite his spectacular international career, was irritated when the umpire irrationally ruled him out on several occasions.
Sachin Tendulkar is not just a name in international cricket; he is considered the greatest ever to have featured in the sport. The batter holds the exceptional record of having scored 100 centuries, a feat that will be held alongside his name for generations to come.
However, despite having immense success in his career and playing internationally for nearly 24 years, Tendulkar was always a man who avoided confrontations or field drama; he also opted out of controversial statements, but the only problems that occurred were surrounding umpiring errors.
Sachin Tendulkar's another hilarious dig at Steve Bucknor
Tendulkar's list of centuries might have been longer had he not been playing in the pre-DRS era, when the umpires did not make several controversial decisions that often did not side with the legendary batsman.
However, one name that was often found associated with controversies involving Tendulkar was that of West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor. The Windies official had a horrible success rate against Tendulkar, to the extent that even the shy master blaster looked visibly frustrated on several occasions.
During Tendulkar's first Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, a fan posted, 'Any comments for Steve Bucknor?'. "When I am batting, give him boxing gloves to wear (so he can't raise his finger," Tendulkar said, once again sparking a laugh riot on the thread.
When Steve Bucknor's decisions left Sachin Tendulkar baffled
There have been many such incidents between the greats of the game and the West Indies umpire; the first noticeable moment was back in 2003 when Sachin Tendulkar offered a no shot to Australian speedster Jason Gillespie, and the ball struck him high on the pads. To everyone's surprise, Bucknor ruled the little master out; however, replays confirmed later that the ball would have missed the stumps by some inches.
The next incident followed at the Eden Gardens when Bucknor ruled Tendulkar out to a mild appeal from Pakistani players as Abdul Razzaq's delivery whistled past Tendulkar's bat without making even the slightest of contact. This incident severely irked the master blaster.
Sachin sparked fun with a cryptic post in 2024
Years after his retirement, he still took a playful dig at the umpire Bucknor for ruling him out unnecessarily on several occasions. For Bucknor, Sachin Tendulkar was deemed out at the back of his mind, so at the slightest possibility, he would raise his finger straight.
Even after several years had passed, in 2024, Tendulkar amused fans on social media with a cheeky post that many took as a playful dig at former umpire Steve Bucknor.
Sharing a photo of himself in a stance before three tree trunks lined up like stumps, he left the internet in splits. "Can you guess which umpire made the stumps feel this big?" he captioned the post.
