India qualified for the WTC final for the second consecutive time, which is scheduled to be played at the Oval, starting on June 7, and the Rohit Sharma-led team will host the 2023 ODI World Cup at home in October and November. With two major events this year, former head coach Ravi Shastri stated that India is due for an ICC trophy and that the team’s titles will begin to flow.
India have not won an ICC trophy in the last ten years, with their best performance coming in the 2013 Champions Trophy final win against England. They have reached the semi-finals of the 2015 ODI World Cup, and the 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cups. India made it to the finals of the 2014 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue lost in the final inaugural WTC tournament in 2021.

They Have Been Consistent, Reached Finals, Semi-finals – Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri cited Sachin Tendulkar and Lionel Messi as examples and predicted that it will rain trophies if India successfully breaks their ICC tournament jinx. Shastri further highlighted that Tendulkar had to play six World Cups to win one ICC title.
“I think India are due. They have been consistent – they reached finals, semi-finals on a regular basis. Look at Sachin Tendulkar. He had to play six World Cups to win one ICC trophy. 6 World Cups means 24 years. And on his last World Cup, he won. Look at Lionel Messi. Classic example that is. I mean how long he has been playing. And when he started winning, he won the Copa America, and the the World Cup and scored in the final as well. So you have to wait. It will rain,” said Shastri as quoted by Hindustan Times.
The Rohit Sharma-led team beat Australia by a 2-1 margin in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at home. India drew the final Test of the four-match series in Ahmedabad and advanced to the WTC after New Zealand’s victory over Sri Lanka. Australia secured a berth in the final with their victory in the Indore Test.
