It has been more than a decade since India defeated Pakistan in the semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2011 but it looks like Saeed Ajmal is yet to get over it. The former spinner was a key member of the Pakistan team in that tournament.

The match took place in Mohali and India had gone on to win it. Just like any other India-Pakistan clash, the 2011 World Cup semifinal clash witnessed a controversial moment too. Saeed Ajmal was at the center of the incident. The off-spinner silenced the entire stadium by trapping the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in front of the stumps in the 11th over.

The former India batsman was batting on 23 runs at that time. Tendulkar was given out by umpire Ian Gould before he decided to review the decision. It was a very close call. The replays showed that the ball had pitched in line, and hit Tendulkar in line but the ball was missing the leg stump.

The replays left Saeed Ajmal, his teammates as well as the umpire shellshocked. Tendulkar went on to play a crucial knock of 85 runs as India beat Pakistan by 29 runs. The incident has been a major talking point since then.

“I don’t know how the television replays showed my delivery turning towards the leg side because I had bowled an arm ball and it went straight,” Ajmal had said after the game.

Saeed Ajmal has expressed his displeasure and shock over the incident on numerous occasions. And he was at it again while speaking on a podcast. The former Pakistan spin spearhead claimed that Tendulkar was out before sensationally alleging that the organizers had cut two frames to make the ball miss the leg stump.

“We played the 2011 World Cup, you must remember the incident with Sachin Tendulkar. The LBW decision that was overturned. The controversy about it is still going on. It was out. Both, umpire and I knew it was out. They had cut two frames to make it look like ball missed the stumps. Otherwise, it would’ve hit the stumps in the middle,” Ajmal said on the Nadir Ali Podcast.
