In a dramatic twist of fate at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A, history was rewritten on a sunny Tuesday in Samoa. The Garden Oval No.2 in Apia witnessed an unforgettable spectacle during the qualifier match between Samoa and Vanuatu.

Samoa's Darius Visser unleashed an extraordinary batting onslaught that left spectators in awe and the record books rewritten during the ICC T20 World Cup Sub Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A game.

Visser shattered the international record for the most runs scored in a single over in men's T20I cricket which will be talked about for generations.

Darius Visser's 39-run over creates T20I history in Samoa's thrilling win over Vanuatu

The dramatic moment unfolded in the 15th over of Samoa's innings, which turned into an explosive display of power and precision. Facing Vanuatu seamer Nalin Nipiko, Visser unleashed a barrage of sixes that left the crowd in awe, and the record books were updated on Tuesday.

Nipiko bore the brunt of Visser's relentless assault, as the over began with three consecutive monstrous sixes, a display that had the fans on the edge of their seats.

But Visser wasn't done, as he took full advantage of three no-balls delivered by Nipiko, adding fuel to the already blazing fire, making this over the most expensive in the history of men's T20I cricket.

With each swing, the ball soared over the boundary, and the scoreboard kept ticking. A dot ball on the fifth delivery provided only a brief respite before Visser launched another towering six off the third no-ball, finishing the over with one final blow that would seal his place in history.

The 28-year-old smoked a total of six sixes to get a jaw-dropping 39 runs from the one over—the most ever conceded in a men's T20I cricket, surpassing the previous world record of 36 runs, a feat first set by the legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh back in 2007.

Visser's relentless assault didn't just help him to make a world record, but it also propelled him to a personal milestone, making him the first player from Samoa to score a century in international cricket. Visser's record knock of 132 runs from 62 deliveries was a masterclass in aggressive batting.

His knock was studded with 14 towering sixes and fell just four short of the record for the most sixes in a men's T20I match by a single batter. Visser’s historic knock was a reminder of the unpredictable, exhilarating nature of the game.

He also finished with the bowling figures of 1/29 in 4 overs and won the Player of the Match award for his all-round efforts in the thrilling qualifier game.

Visser's breathtaking knock helped Samoa record a remarkable 10-run win over Vanuatu in Apia.

It was Samoa’s second win in the ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional East Asia-Pacific Qualifier A tournament. This triumph also kept alive their dreams of qualifying for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
