Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Rishabh Pant will take the no.4 batting spot in the Indian team for some time now. His comments come after Rishabh Pant slammed an 85-run knock in IND vs SA 2nd ODI.

Rishabh Pant played a magnificent knock in the match, which India lost by 7 wickets. Pant attacked South African bowlers from the start. During his knock, the left-handed batsman played 71 balls and slammed 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. His knock helped India to recover from an early blow, as the team had lost two back-to-back crucial wickets in the form of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.

I Think Rishabh Pant Will Have the No.4 Spot For A While: Sanjay Manjrekar

While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar said that Rishabh Pant will have the no.4 spot in the team for a while after his performance in IND vs SA 2nd ODI.

“After the performance that you saw in the 2nd one-dayer, (Rishabh Pant) he’ll have that position for a while. I was slightly skeptical about his kind of style, whether he is suited for a No.4, because you want a No.4 to have all the gears. But Risabh Pant has a couple of gears – either it is blocked or he hits the ball out of the ground. But the way he batted, I think he will have that number for a while,” Manjrekar said.

Sanjay Manjrekar also said that he would like to Venkatesh Iyer at a better batting order.

“I’d like to see Venky (Venkatesh) Iyer getting a better position in the batting order before he starts feeling the pressure of maintaining his place in the side. So him, maybe, opening the innings. I’d like to see Jayant Yadav come in as the off-spinner, adding a little more to the batting and Suryakumar Yadav maybe at no.5,” Manjrekar further said.
