Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka talked about the loss in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Goenka-owned Rising Pune Supergiant lost the final of the tournament to Mumbai Indians from the winning position.

Rising Pune Supergiant no doubt were one of the exciting teams that played in the Indian Premier League.

Sanjiv Goenka introduced franchise in the tournament in 2016 and 2017, during the period when Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned from the league due to the fixing charges.

The Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise was captained by MS Dhoni in 2016 but the keeper-batter was removed with Steve Smith taking over the charge. However, in the second season, they displayed a magnificent performance, and under the leadership of Smith, they reached the final.

But suffered a heartbreaking loss to Mumbai Indians in the final. The Rising Pune Supergiants were in complete control of the game, and it seemed that they would win the game as they had to chase a target of just 130. But in the end, Mumbai changed the game and won the match to lift another title.

Sanjiv Goenka said that when they lost the final of the tournament they had an inexperienced team.

He stated that apart from MS Dhoni and Steve Smith, there weren't many big games, which cost them the final of the tournament, stressing that making the right calls is key. Speaking to Sports Tak, he explained:

"The Super Giants family has been in the IPL for five years. Two of those were with Pune, and three were with Lucknow. When we reached the finals with Pune, it was a new and inexperienced team. You leave out Steve Smith and MS Dhoni, we didn't have much experience in the team.

"We were about to win the final, but due to our lack of experience, we lost. So making the right calls in those crunch moments is key."

It was Pune's match to win but they lost it by themselves - Sanjiv Goenka

Sanjiv Goenka further went on to say that Mumbai Indians have a habit of winning, and applied themselves well under pressure. He admitted that it was Pune's match to win but they didn't. While highlighting Mumbai's attitude, stressed that Lucknow Super Giants needs to have the same. He said:

"Mumbai have a habit of winning. Everyone should emulate their never-say-die attitude. It was Pune's match to win but they lost it by themselves because of the pressure applied by Mumbai. This attitude needs to be there in Lucknow. Otherwise, we would never win. We have to be confident in ourselves."

The second franchise owned by Sanjiv Goenka in Lucknow Super Giants has been successful as well in the league. They have played three seasons so far in the league have made playoffs for two seasons, and finished 7th last year.
