Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson faced the axe once again as he failed to find a place in the T20I squad that was announced for the five-match series against Australia. The series begins with the first T20I in Vizag on November 23, Thursday. The other big name missing was that of Yuzvendra Chahal.
Both Samson and Chahal were not picked in the ODI World Cup squad and the Asian Games squad. Former cricketers have started showing their concerns on whether both these cricketers are in the future plans of BCCI.
Samson was expected to replace KL Rahul after the latter succumbed to an injury. He is now out of the team for nearly a year but Samson has not been given consistent chances in the meantime. The rise of KL Rahul as a white-ball keeper and the inclusion of Ishan Kishan as the second-choice keeper in the white-ball sides have given a clear indication regarding the management’s thoughts on Samson’s future.
Sanju Samson Has Been Ignored For Home T20I Series Against Australia
However, if a BCCI source is to be believed, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar is said to have spoken to Samson in Mumbai. The former Indian cricketer has asked the Kerala cricketer to work on his fitness.
“Not 100 percent, he is 200 percent in the scheme of things,” said a source privy to the development. Sanju Samson last played 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is for India. he played his last T20I against Ireland earlier this year in August.
Samson will be turning up for Kerala in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The domestic tournament gives him the perfect opportunity to get big scores under his belt and stake a claim on his return to the Indian cricket team.
