Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has questioned the credibility of the figures who act as advisors to Mohsin Naqvi, while he has also questioned his serving in a dual role in the Pakistan government and the Pakistan cricket team as well.

Mohsin Naqvi's stars are not favouring him, as the Asia Cup 2025 ended with the Indian team's trophy and the medals being retained by him. The chief has received widespread criticism from around the world, and now he has also been slammed within his own nation by former star cricketers as well as other administrators.

BCCI has vowed to take Mohsin Naqvi to the ICC

The BCCI has held Mohsin Naqvi answerable for the conduct in the post-match presentation ceremony of the Asia Cup final. Naqvi took over the chair of PCB back in 2024 but has overseen a rocky transition period.

The PCB Chief is currently also the president of the Asian Cricket Council; however, India denied taking the trophy from his hand, marking his infuriating statements against India and the esteem of the nation.

Mohsin Naqvi walked off the field with the Trophy in his hand, and hence, the BCCI, which has not found any clarity over the issue, has vowed to take it to the ICC to resolve the issues surrounding the Trophy row.

Shahid Afridi questions Mohsin Naqvi's double role in the Pakistan administration

With the dual role he serves for the Pakistan government as well as in the Pakistan cricket team, claims have increased that Mohsin Naqvi should drop one of these roles to allow the PCB to be handled with total focus, either by himself or by a new appointee.

One of the most well-known voices to ask for this change is Shahid Afridi, with the former Pakistan captain in particular questioning Naqvi's role and the advisors with the PCB.

“My request or advice to Naqvi saheb is that these are two very important posts, and they are big jobs that need time," Afridi said on Telecom Asia Sport. “PCB is totally different from the Interior Ministry, so it must be kept separate.”

Shahid Afridi asks for the appointment of competent advisors

Shahid Afridi admitted that this is not an easy move to make, yet it still remains something that should currently be prioritized by Pakistan cricket. Mike Hesson's recent rise has helped Pakistan reach the Asia Cup final, and hence, it will provide a view into how smoothly operations are conducted within the board.

“It would be a big decision and should be taken as soon as possible. Pakistan cricket needs special attention and time… Naqvi cannot rely totally on advisers,” explained the all-round great.

“These advisers are taking him nowhere, and he himself says that he doesn’t know much about cricket. He needs to appoint good and competent advisors who know about the game," concluded Afridi, making his thoughts clear on where he believes Pakistan cricket needs to go next.
