Shardul Thakur undergoes successful ankle surgery

India all-rounder Shardul Thakur has undergone a successful ankle surgery which has been troubling him for a while. The all-rounder provided an update about his operation through a social media post on Wednesday (12th June).

Shardul Thakur posted the picture on his Instagram account. He also shared his throwback picture of when he first underwent foot surgery in May 2019 after the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he sustained the injury and went to London for the operation.

He posted the picture with the caption: "Operated successfully 🙏🏼 Now June 2024 vs ➡️ May 2019."

Shardul Thakur has been troubled a lot by injuries in his career. The all-rounder has missed a lot of cricket for the Indian team as well as the franchise and his domestic team in Mumbai. He first got injured during his debut Test against West Indies and after that, he has been amongst the injuries.

Shardul Thakur then also missed the Test against England in Lord's. He got ruled out of the game due to a hamstring injury. The all-rounder has been marred by injuries this year as well and he has missed a lot of action this year as well which included some big games.

Shardul Thakur also sustained an ankle injury during India's tour to South Africa earlier this year. The all-rounder because of that missed the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 clash against Kerala. However, after that, he made a comeback but didn't look in great shape and also urged BCCI to give longer gaps between tournaments to keep them fit.

Shardul Thakur had a stellar campaign in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24. He was incredible with both bat and ball. The Mumbai star scored 255 runs and picked 12 wickets in five games for the Mumbai side in the Ranji Trophy. He also was awarded Player of the Match in the semi-final against Tamil Nadu for slamming a century and picking four wickets.

Shardul Thakur was experiencing pain in the ankle for quite a while - reports

Shardul Thakur as per the reports in Times of India was in pain for a while. He took injections to be fit for the IPL 2024 but he didn't see any improvements and hence decided to undergo surgery. The source also stated that the all-rounder was operated on by the same doctor, who treated Mohammed Shami. He elaborated:

"Thakur was experiencing pain in the ankle for quite a while. He took an injection before the IPL, but the situation didn't improve much, so he decided to undergo surgery post the IPL, as there is a three-month break before the 2024-25 domestic season will commence.

"Thakur was operated by the same doctor who performed a knee surgery on England's star footballer Harry Kane and India's premier pace Mohammed Shami."

Shardul Thakur was last seen in action during the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. The all-rounder didn't have a great time in the league. In the 9 games that he has played, he bagged just 5 wickets at an economy of 9.76 and a disastrous average of 61.80.
