Travis Dean replaced Will Pucovski as a concussion substitute in the Victoria team on the fourth day of their Sheffield Shield match against South Australia.

Pucovski was making his comeback to first-class cricket after overcoming a similar injury suffered in the summer.

Cricket Victoria issued a statement regarding the 24-year-old player’s condition and the board mentioned that its medical staff will monitor the player. 

“Victoria has activated the concussion substitute on Day 4 of its Marsh Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at Adelaide Oval. Will Pucovski will be replaced in the XI by Travis Dean,” the statement read.

“Pucovski reported concussion symptoms to medical staff while fielding in the first session of play this morning. He will continue to be monitored by Cricket Victoria medical staff,” it further added. 

Puckovski’s career has been hit with numerous concussion cases, he suffered his 10th concussion in his breif career in early October during a throwdown session for Victoria. The Australian batter had to subsequently miss the Ashes series at home.

Will Pucovski made 54 for Victoria in the first innings

Pucovski scored 54 runs for Victoria in the first innings in the ongoing match against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Pucovski added 110 runs for the opening stand with Marcus Harris (58).

Pucovski hit five boundaries from his 123-ball stay at the crease before he was caught behind by Alex Carey off David Grant’s bowling in the 48th over of Victoria’s first innings.

Victoria posted 264, 102 behind South Australia’s first innings tally as hundreds by Jake Weatherald (122) and Daniel Drew (130) helped the SA to post a commendable score.

South Australia added 213 to their 102-run lead in the second innings, leaving Victoria to chase a daunting target of 316.

On Day 4, Victoria’s score read 78 for three wickets down with skipper Peter Handscomb unbeaten at 50 and Matthew Short batting at 11 after 40.3 overs in the second session.
