Team India will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming second ODI against Sri Lanka after failing to win the first ODI, played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka stunned their fancied opponents to power their team to a thrilling tie.
Chasing 231 runs, India started well with the bat thanks to a brilliant 33-ball fifty from their captain Rohit Sharma. Although India lost both the openers in quick succession to find themselves reeling at 80 for 3 from 75 for 0, they were in the driver's seat.
However, things went only downhill for India as their batters failed to deal with Sri Lanka's spinners. In the end, India were bowled out for 230 runs too as the game ended in a tie. In the 48th over, India needed only 1 run to win the game and had two wickets in hand. However, Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka dismissed Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh on successive deliveries to pull off a famous result for his side.
Following the disappointing result in the series opener, India are reportedly set to make at least one change to their playing XI. As per a report published by SportsTiger, Riyan Parag is in line to make his ODI debut in the upcoming game. The middle-order batsman made his debut in international cricket last month during the T20I series against Zimbabwe. He could replace Shivam Dube in the playing XI.
He was also a part of the team for the T20I series against Sri Lanka and played in all three games. In the first T20I, he picked up 3 wickets for just 5 runs before playing a crucial 26-run knock in the third T20I. And the youngster is now likely to get an opportunity to showcase his talent in the 50-over format.
Riyan Parag's record in List A cricket:
While Riyan Parag is yet to play an ODI game, he has a fine record in 50-over cricket in the domestic arena. The Assam star has played 49 List A games so far and has scored 1720 runs at an average of almost 42 and a strike rate of over 100. He has hit 5 centuries and 8 half-centuries in List-A cricket so far.
Riyan Parag has also done well with the ball in the format. In 44 innings so far, he has picked up an impressive 50 wickets with his off-spin while maintaining an economy rate of less than 5. He will be hoping that he gets the chance to play in the upcoming two ODIs against Sri Lanka and perform well in both matches.
